Bookkeeping & Cash Flow

Mercury Books: a lighter alternative to QuickBooks

A lighter bookkeeping tool that pairs well with a lean operation — and leaves the general-ledger gymnastics to CPAs who need them.

A simpler close-of-month, powered by the bank feed.

What it is

Mercury Books is a bookkeeping product built on top of Mercury's banking feed. It categorizes transactions as they land, generates a P&L and balance sheet from them, and skips most of the manual journal-entry workflow QuickBooks is built around.

Who it fits

Small operators who process a lot of card volume and don't have a bookkeeper. If your business runs on one or two bank accounts and a Stripe or merchant deposit feed, Mercury Books will cover 80% of what you'd do in QuickBooks with roughly 20% of the clicks.

Where QuickBooks still wins

If you need inventory valuations, project accounting, multi-entity consolidation, or your CPA insists on specific lead schedules — stay on QuickBooks. For everyone else, lighter is usually better.
